One of Thailand's southern provinces, Phuket contains the island of Phuket. There are 32 other smaller islands off its coast, making it the biggest island in the country.

It is located in the Andaman Sea off mainland Thailand's west coast. The Sarasin Bridge connects Phuket Island to the northern province of Phang Nga. Across Phang Nga Bay to the east is the next closest province, Krabi.

The second-smallest province in Thailand, Phuket has an area of 576 km2 (222 sq mi), considerably less than Singapore. The island was situated on one of the main routes of trade between China and India.

However, it was never colonized by a European power although being constantly referenced in the foreign ship logs of Portuguese, French, Dutch, and English traders. Prior to tourism, its main sources of income were tin and rubber.

Phuket is often known too as Thailand's Beach Capital, and for good reason. You will experience breathtaking sunsets, relaxing beaches, well-developed infrastructure, and breathtakingly stunning scenery in this paradise.
